On
Friday, October 25th, the Grade Four and
Grade Nine classes from the Bangna Campus
of The American School of Bangkok took
over 70 children and volunteers from the
Child Protection Foundation to Safari
World.
The
Child Protection Foundation is a non-profit
charity that provides education, counseling
and shelter to abused children and ASB
is proud to support their efforts through
our Community Outreach Program.
The
field trip to Safari World was a project
that saw the involvement of the entire
school community at ASB. Starting with
the September Donation Drive in which
over 6000 items were donated to the child
Protection Foundation by the student body,
the Students' Council stepped in and sponsored
the admission costs for the field trip.
The service manager and staff arranged
transport and food for the group and the
project received overwhelming support
from parents and the school administration
alike - right down to leading the trucks!
It was a success that spoke volumes of
the people that make ASB a true "community".
As
one volunteer from the Child Protection
Foundation said,"This is a dream
come true for these children. Nobody has
ever done this for them before."
Indeed,
it was a precious moment to see seventy-two
beaming faces at the Safari World "Dolphin
Show". During the tour the park,
children that are usually shy, lit up
and quizzed the staff about the exotic
fauta that most have only seen in books.
Upon leaving the buses one child thanked
a Safari World staff member for allowing
the animals to live outside of cages -
a poignant reminder of the freedom that
we all enjoy, but is so precious to these
young children.
Again,
the success of this project is testimony
to the great difference our small community
can make when we work together for noble
goals and truly show that ASB has heart!
