ASB TSUNAMI RELIEF EFFORTS

Welcome to The American School of Bangkok’s Tsunami Relief Efforts’ page!

In the wake of the December 26th 2005 tsunami that hit Asia, The American School of Bangkok announced a series of activities to raised funds to help the victims. These activities included Sukhumvit Fair 2005, contributions from the ASB local newspaper (the ASB Times), the ASB Basketball Team, the MTV, the cremation ceremony of Khun Monchit Tavedikul, and the Grand Talent Show.

The school raised a total of 831,292 Baht (approximately $21,000 USD) from all of these events. The money raised was used to buy books, educational resources, and occupational equipment for the affected victims in the south of Thailand.

Details of the activities are as follows:-

Sukhumvit Fair 2005

The net proceeds from the American School of Bangkok’s annual funfair – the “Sukhumvit Fair 2005” – were directed towards this effort.

Amount Generated: 126, 905 Baht

Contributions from the “ASB Times” Team

The students of the school’s newsletter production team organized varied activities to generate funds for this effort.

Contributions from MTV Asia Aid Concert

Upon MTV Asia’s invitation, 60 students from the American School of Bangkok participated in the opening performance of MTV Asia Aid on February 3rd 2005 at the Impact Arena. The show was a benefit for UNICEF, to assist the children of tsunami affected areas.

In light of ASB’s assistance for this worthy cause, MTV donated 20,000 baht to the tsunami charity of the school’s choice.

Donation Boxes

Members of the school community and visitors dropped monetary contributions into the donation boxes that were placed around the school.

Amount: 7,002 Baht

The donations received from the cremation services of Dr. Suseri Tavedikul, ASB President’s late mother – Khun Monchit Tavedikul - were forwarded to the school
