THE TSUNAMI
SOLUTIONS CONFERENCE -
A
GREAT SUCCESS

The
Rotary Club of Sukhumvit and Interact International
3350 Thailand, in conjunction with The American
School of Bangkok, hosted a special student
conference - the Tsunami Solutions Conference
- on Saturday, April 2nd 2005 at the ASB Bangna
Campus.
Designed
for “The Best and the Brightest”
students in Southeast Asia, the goal of this
conference was for the students to work together
to create a disaster relief program and to begin
their own fund-raising efforts at their schools
and communities to help child victims of the
tsunami disaster of December 26, 2004.
The
attendees of the event were H.E. Mr. Ibrahim
Yusuf (the Ambassador of the Republic of Indonesia
to the Kingdom of Thailand), Mr. Rajeev Kumar
(the Counselor of the Embassy of India), Mr.
Mohammed Nafees Zakaria (the Counselor of the
Embassy of Pakistan), Mr. Louie Alferez (the
Counselor of the Embassy of Philippines), Mr.
Pham Quang Vinh (the Counselor of the Embassy
of Vietnam), Khun Therasak Suppapan (the District
Governor of Rotary Thailand 3350), Mrs. Lakhana
Tavedikul (District Chair Interact International,
District 3350, & the Director of the American
School of Bangkok), the administrators, faculty,
staff of the American School of Bangkok, and
Interact students across Asia.
Activities
for the day were divided into two sessions -
the morning and afternoon sessions.
Activities
for the morning session included a keynote address
by the Ambassdor of the Republic of Indonesia
to the Kingdom of Thailand), special messages
by the Counselors of the Embassies of India,
Pakistan, Philippines, and Vietnam), a special
report by faculty and students of the American
School of Bangkok on the situation in the South
of Thailand, and a student question and answer
session pertaining to the tsunami disaster.
Activities
for the afternoon session included stduents'
discussions on future tsunami disaster prevention,
tourism and economic recovery, and the formulation
of fund-raising efforts to help the victims.
The
conference ended with attendees' participation
in special team-building sports activities followed
by a musical entertainment by the students of
the American School of Bangkok.
All
student attendees also received certificates
of participation.
