poster2006 The American School of Bangkok's annual fun fair - the "SUKHUMVIT FAIR 2006" was held on January 21 - 22, 2006 from 12:00 p.m. to midnight at the Sukhumvit Soi 49-3.

The Sukhumvit Fair 2006 was organized to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the Reign of His Majesty the King of Thailand, the Father of our nation, who has been building well and true for Thailand since he uttered the oath on the day of ascension: “We shall reign with righteousness for the benefit and happiness of the Siamese people”.

The American School of Bangkok was highly honored to have the gracious presence of Her Royal Highness Princess Sirivannavari Nariratana at the opening ceremony.

Highlights of the event include a parade of 60 beautiful cars (featuring Harley Davidsons, Ferraris, Mini Coopers, and American antique convertibles), exceptional performances by ASB students featuring His Majesty the King's Compostions, an exclusive designers' collections fashion show by Pusita & Paothong Thongchua, extraordinary Thai dances from Surin and Had Yai, a grand raffle draw of 60 prizes, educational institutions' information display, and spectacular performances by well-known Thai celebrities such as John (Nuvo) and Add Carabao.

In addition to the above, there was a fantastic music performance by Sal Cracchiolo (the Trumpeter of Grammy Award Winning Poncho Sanchez Latin Jazz Band), and Melanie Jackson. Both performed a wonderful blend of jazz with a Latin touch.

Other surprises and items of interest to keep everyone entertained included a parade of cartoon characters, the man on the stilts, and exciting games and prizes.

Another activity at the event was the announcement of winners for the special art & literary competition under the theme “The Father Who Only Builds” . This activity allowed students from Thai & international schools to demonstrate their artistic skills and their creative writing talents in honor of the works of His Majesty the King of Thailand in building the nation. Special thanks to Staedtler (Thailand) Ltd. for sponsoring this activity.

The entire community was made part of the school's fair, and the result was there for everyone to see - with attendees from different communities and their enthusiastic participation in the various events.

The net proceeds from Sukhumvit Fair 2006 will be forwarded to the Chai Pattana Foundation under the patronage of His Majesty the King of Thailand. This will be done as soon as the school completes the wristbands sales campaign. These special wristbands are produced to commemorate the 60th year of reign of His Majesty the King of Thailand. They are available at the school, and at the Thai Military Bank.
